The Art of Smart Snacking

If you’re like me, you absolutely need to snack. I can’t even fathom going through a day without a few “mini” meals. Last week, a colleague who I often eat lunch with asked me what my trick is to consistent snacking without weight gain.

“What’s your secret?” she asked.

I laughed and explained to her what I will now explain to you below. There are no tricks up my sleeve nor is there a magical spell. To eat a lot of snacks in between meals while maintaining a healthy diet, you simply need to monitor the calorie and fat content of these snacks while also looking for foods with high fiber and protein content to keep you satiated.

Don’t be afraid to snack; just be smart. If you’re a smart snacker, you snack on the right foods, and if you snack on the right foods, you  can definitely maintain a slim figure. In fact, you could even lose weight; eating small meals and small snacks frequently throughout the day has been shown to boost your metabolism.

Below are my ”secrets” to smart snacking:

A great rule of thumb: no matter where you are (home, work, on-the-go), try to snack on fruits and veggies as much as possible. They are low in calories and fat, usually full of fiber, and rich in nutrients.

As long as you choose mostly healthy options, watch portion sizes and occasionally treat yourself – no food should ever be off limits if it’s what you’re really, truly craving – I believe anyone can master the art of smart snacking.
