Just because summer is coming to an end, doesn’t mean it’s time to throw in the towel. There’s still ample time to get in a few of this season must-do’s before the leaves start to fall. Below is a list of ten simple summer pleasures to take advantage of as we approach fall.

  1. Eat outside. Whether it’s dinner with friends, eating a bagged lunch or  your quick morning breakfast at home, take your meal outdoors! I like to eat lunch outside with my coworkers, which allows me to take a break and get a breath of fresh air. Pretty soon, it may be too cool for outdoor eating, so take advantage of that patio seating or park while you can!
  2. Grill. Grilling is delicious and can be extremely healthy and affordable. Grill for family and friends, or even when eating alone. If you’re looking to make it a family affair, we love these 5 tips for summer grilling with kids.
  3. Take walks. Walk as many places as possible: your commute to work, your errands, the dog. Better yet, email all your girlfriends and schedule a Saturday morning stroll, followed by coffee together – outdoors of course! Make reasons to walk and enjoy the fresh air.
  4. Have a beach or pool day. Devote an afternoon to relaxing at the beach or pool. Veg out with a page-turner, a bunch of friends and good food. Just remember to reapply your sunscreen!
  5. Swim. Swimming is a wonderful and fun form of exercise, and it’s especially great, because it mixes up your routine. Dive in and swim some laps as a replacement to your normal workout.
  6. Go to a festival, farmer’s market or fair. There are so many summer-specific events. Find out what’s happening locally and make an afternoon out of it! Check out festivalfinder.com, if you’re not sure what’s going on in your area.
  7. Go to the park. Spending an afternoon at the park is peaceful and fun. Take friends, your companion, your dog or just yourself and find a place to sit. I prefer a bench, but a blanket on the ground is also comfortable. Read a good book, play with your dog, or picnic with friends. You’ll feel like you took a mini-getaway, and all you had to do was walk down the block!
  8. Get a pedicure. So you can show off your nails while you’re still wearing opened-toed shoes.
  9. Wear your favorite seasonal apparel. Cropped pants, shorts, tanks, tees or white. Wear it all while you can. Bonus points if you pack up everything you didn’t wear this summer and donate it to a local charity. If you didn’t wear it this summer, you’re not going to next year!
  10. Go bathing suit shopping for next season. Many bathing suits are on sale this time of year. Take advantage and stock up, while the price is right.

We want to hear your fresh perspective:
