Welcome to Wednesday! For the third installment of our healthy lunch bunch, Jennifer will be showing us how to “savor the time” you spend packing lunch with your kids!

Healthy Lunch Menu Day 3

Notes from the video:

*If you are concerned that the vinegar may be too strong of a smell, you can try to use ranch dressing or your child’s favorite dip.

*I usually do not put butter (unsalted) on the popcorn that I prepare for school so that I do not need to worry about any sogginess however, there was a demand that day so I kept it light. You may want to try dusting on finely grated cheese. It gives a creamy flavor and adds a bit of saltiness.


Hello Flatout Bread Lovers! My name is Jennifer and I am the HEO (household executive officer) of our family and owner of Savor the Thyme. I am a Mom of a four and six year old and have been married for almost nine years.

I know packing a healthy lunch can seem overwhelming so here are some tips that work for us:

a. When I think about what to pack for my school lunches, I do my best to think of foods they like and not just of the typical foods that kids prefer. Luckily, they are still young enough to be happy to just have some food they like and are not worried about eating what others are eating.

b. I also ask them if they would like to help in not only packing the lunchbox but in creating some recipes. The kids then feel that they have power of choice and I find they are more likely to try new things when they are helping to make choices.

One of my daughter’s favorite foods lately is shrimp. For the wrap below, we kept it simple and paired it with baby spinach and a balsamic vinaigrette, as she is obsessed with vinegar.


Balsamic Shrimp Wrap

  • 1 Multigrain Flatout Wrap
  • 5 medium shrimp, shelled, cooked and cooled
  • 10 pieces of Baby Spinach
  • 1-2 Tablespoons of your favorite Balsamic Vinaigrette


1. Place the wrap on a cutting board and place baby spinach close to one rounded end of the Flatout.

2. Drizzle the dressing on top of the spinach and then add the shrimp.

3. Roll, cut and Enjoy!

    ooh ANY THING with balsamic on it..yummers. I’ve actually had it on ice cream.. maybe not so healthy but still tasty. I love that your daughter will eat this too. What an adventurer :0)
