5 Ways to Bring Family Fun Indoors

When the weather is warm, it’s easy to find ways to have fun and stay active with your family. All you have to do is step outside! But once winter weather hits, staying inside seems a lot more appealing and it can get hard to keep activity at the same level. Gone are the days of hanging out beachside. Instead, I would much rather sit by the fireside.

The good news is that even though there may be less space to move around, there are still plenty of ways to hang out together that keep energy levels high and the whole family working together.

5 Ways to Bring Family Fun Indoors

1. Rearrange a designated “family” room.

Give everyone a say in what the newly designed room will look like. Everything from how the furniture will be arranged to what will adorn the walls. It’s a home improvement project that gives every family member the chance to add their personal touch, creating a shared space that is unique and special to you.

2. Play charades.

It’s easy to stay active when you have to do an impression of Tigger. Split into teams (boys vs. girls, oldest vs. youngest, parents vs. kids) and see who can come up with the best imitations! You can find full instructions here.

3. Make a family flick.

A picture’s worth a thousand words, but video helps capture the sights and sounds of a fun moment. Whether you re-enact one of your favorite movie scenes or simply shoot off the cuff, capture something on camera. You can even create your own family YouTube page to share funny moments with others.

4. Solve a puzzle.

Exercising your mind is important, too! Whether you build a 100 or 1,000 piece puzzle, challenge your family to finish within a certain time frame. Keep a running tally and give prizes to the family member who adds the most pieces.

5. Have a wrap party!

Everybody has different tastes, so why not pose a challenge to create the best wrap of the family? Give everyone a chance to choose their own ingredients and cut each wrap into Flatout pinwheels for sampling. You can nominate an impartial judge to do the final taste testing.
