Sometimes spontaneity can be the best ingredient in a holiday soiree. That being said, you still need something to serve all those guests! Whether you hate spending time in the kitchen or you only have a few hours before guests arrive, these simple entertaining food ideas from Lara DiPaola are for you.

Earlier today, I shared two adult-friendly entertaining recipes. However, sometimes we just need to pull something together on the quick and cheap, while keeping the flair and class intact!

Olive BarSource

Grab some olives from the olive bar at your local grocery, around a pound.

Heat up about a tablespoon of olive oil in a small pan on the stove, just to about medium heat. Toss in some fresh rosemary and the zest of about half a lemon. Remove the mixture from the heat and toss the olives in it. This will wow your guest with flavor and impress them with your skills, all for around six bucks and five minutes.

Hummus BoatsSource

Consider a hummus bar. Plain hummus is like a blank canvas just waiting for you to bring it to life.

Divide a large container of it into three smaller serving dishes. Top each one with something different. Try a little chopped up fresh basil, a few pine nuts, some olive oil and fresh grated Parmesan cheese for a little pesto pizazz. Or how about some pre-made olive tapenade? Or maybe chop up some of those herbed olives you just whipped up.

Dig in with Flatout’s EdgeOn chips, I recommend a BOAT LOAD of Sea Salt flavored. You’ll have spent very little time and money, but will’ve brought a chic flair to the tired old chips and dip.
